Strengthening Coastal Protection Through Ocean Strainer Implementation
The European Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (ECCSL), together with MAS Foundation for Change, successfully implemented an Ocean Strainer in Colombo on 2 October 2025 as part of an ongoing joint commitment to environmental sustainability. The Ocean Strainer, scalable waste-filtering system — was installed to capture and remove plastic waste from urban waterways before it reaches the ocean.
This project highlights a strong partnership between ECCSL and MAS Foundation, supported by the wider European business community’s focus on green innovation and corporate responsibility. The initiative aims to reduce pollution, strengthen local ecosystems, and contribute to Sri Lanka’s broader sustainability goals.
During the implementation event, representatives from ECCSL, the French Embassy including his Excellency Mr. Remi Lambert, Sri Lanka – France Business Council, and MAS Foundation spoke on the value of cross-sector collaboration in promoting environmental stewardship. The Ocean Strainer will be monitored over the coming months to measure waste collection volume, community impact, and opportunities for replication across other waterways in Sri Lanka.
ECCSL remains committed to fostering partnerships that align private-sector innovation with environmental action, strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and the EU’s sustainability priorities.
